HALFWAY POINT Tisk Email

It has been 5 months in the Czech Republic now -- I can’t believe we’ve reached the halfway point already! We have a saying in English, “Time flies when you’re having fun,” and I definitely think that’s been true in relation to my time here. I’ve even found a new shop in Turnov with all different kinds of nut butters, especially peanut butter!

I’ve had quite an eventful past few months here. Since you last heard from me, I broke my arm, and consequently, received a wonderful tour of the Czech healthcare system (which must be good, because I’m healed!), traveled to a few new countries over the holidays (Germany and the Netherlands) and tasted typical Czech carp and potato salad (thanks to my amazing mentor PhDr. Eva Špínová), got to participate in the 2nd year students’ ski course in the Krkonoše Mountains (which was so much fun, and probably the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in the Czech Republic so far), started attending a great Zumba class with some students and teachers, and have had an absolute blast at the 4th year students’ maturita balls (I must say, American proms cannot even compare!).

In the U.S., New Year’s Resolutions are a big deal, and I’ve decided that I’d like to improve my Czech vocabulary, if anyone has any good tips for me! This week, I’m headed to Humpolec for the Fulbright Mid-Year Conference, so I’m looking forward to seeing another new place in the Czech Republic. I’m also looking forward to teaching a whole new group of younger students in February, and would like to thank the older students I’ve had for making my first semester here so insightful, productive, and fun. Here’s to a great start to 2019 in Czechia!

Děkuji, as always!
